Course introduction

Introduction


The Advanced Diploma in Information Technology is developed to meet the professional and academic needs of graduate to function effectively in the analysis, design and management of computer systems as well as the advanced theorectical knowledge underpinning Programming and Systems Development.

Students will acquire the analytical and advanced computing skills necessary for the analysis, design and management of computer systems and applications such as advanced system analysis and design method, as well as the problem solving skills required to handle evolving technology in multimedia application, interactive web site, network security, database, network security and server operating system.

Assessment Structure

Students will be assessed through a combination of coursework and project. Coursework may be in the form of class tests and assignments. Assessment methods may vary according to individual module requirements.

Curriculum Overview


Programme Structure


Advanced Operating Systems - IT401

This module aims to provide an understanding of more advanced concepts used in the administration of Linux Operating System. It enables students/IT professionals to be familiar in Linux server environment and management. It is the ideal module for getting a Linux server up and running quickly. It emphasised on practical issues discussed in context of common scenarios when deploying server for the first time.

Advanced Visual Basic.Net - IT404.Net

This module equips students with the skills and knowledge to develop ASP.NET web applications using XML and database components. It also covers fair skills in Internet Information Server (IIS), XML and database.

Developing Interactive Website - ICT201

This module introduces the use of added features available for web page creation. Besides the inclusion of normal objects like JavaScript. Applets and media items, students will be taught XML. In XML programming, students will understand the purposes of DTD, style sheets and the creation of their own tags.

Distribution Application Development - ICT202

This module introduces students to the use of Visual C# .net in developing windows and distributed applications. The module will also include web services and XML technology, which can assist in rapid application and component development. The client/server applications will also address database developments.

Multimedia Streaming Technology - ICT209

This module concentrates on adding streaming multimedia capacity to websites in order to make them more interactive and illustrative for audience. Students will be taught the advantages of different technologies, as well as to choose and implement the right strategy, hardware and software for their sites.

Network and Distributed Application Security - ICT206

This module covers the security issues pertaining to most businesses using client/server applications. Students will learn to understand how to implement and control the security architecture, devise effective security policies over the network, and audit for monitoring purposes. Students will also compare the different OS such as NT and UNIX for scalable security features. It also covers detailed methodologies involving cryptography especially in distributed databases.

Object Oriented Programming in Java - IT420

This module aims to provide student a strong foundation in Java programming. Student will learn the concept of object-oriented programming, understand the object-oriented features and apply the concept to programming.

Relational Database Design - IT417

This module covers the use of Entity Relationship (ER) Modelling in detail, using real life examples, practical business problems and solutions. The ER model captures the data requirements and business rules, and forms a sound basis for the initial design of a relational database. The second part of the module covers the design process and presents the considerations for creating a normalised, stable, maintainable and well-defined relational database.



Area of Studies


Progression Pathway

Upon successful completion of the Advanced Diploma in Information Technology awarded by Informatics Academy, the student is eligible to apply for a Bachelor degree programme in Information Technology discipline.

Graduation Requirement

Upon successful completion of all modules, students will be eligible for the Advanced Diploma in Information Technology awarded by Informatics Academy .

ENTRY REQUIREMENT (ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION)
* Diploma in Information Technology awarded by Informatics 
   Academy; OR 
* PEI qualification that articulates into year two of University Degree 
   programme; OR 
* Polytechnic Diploma in IT or computing related field with 
   exemptions for direct entry to Advanced Diploma programme 

ENTRY REQUIREMENT (ENGLISH PROFICIENCY)
*  Certificate in Proficiency in English awarded by 
    Informatics Academy; OR 
*  GCE ‘O’ Level – C6; OR 
*  IELTS 6.0 and equivalent 

ALTERNATIVE ENTRY
Matured Entry: Minimum 30 years old with 8 years of relevant working experience.

Delivery Model
