Course introduction

Introduction


The WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years (ACEY) course is designed to prepare early years educarers in the care, guidance and education of infants and toddlers (2 months - 3 years).

Course Objectives

  • Gain Understanding of the guiding principles, outcomes and sub-outcomes of the Early Years Development Framework
  • Develop understanding of the needs and development phases of infants and toddlers (0 to 36 months old)
  • Acquire knowledge and skills in setting up appropriate learning environments, and planning programme for infants and toddlers in center-based settings.
  • Attain knowledge of the importance of health, safety, first-aid and nutrition
  • Develop understanding of the important roles and responsibilities in the care and development of infants and toddlers
  • acquire skills to engage in reflective practices

Award of Certificate
Upon successful completion of coursework and practicum, and a minimum of 80 % attendance, trainees will be awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years (English) (WSQ ACEY).

Lecturers & their Modules  

Admission Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and should have:
• Completed Secondary 4 education* or 10 years of formal education*; AND
• Attained an average SOA 5 in ES WSQ WPL series; AND
- Credit in EL 1; OR
- IELTS 5.5 (General); OR
- SOA 5 in ES WSQ WPL (Writing)

Note: If a candidate has less than 3 ‘O’ level credits but higher than Sec 4 , he/she must attain an averge WPL SOA 5 & SOA 5 for Writing component prior to admission of programme.

*Applicants are to have passed an examination conducted by the country or state. Medium of instruction is to be in English. Official documents from institution are required to show completion of 10 years of education.

Additional Entry Requirements (for Place-&-Train Scheme only):
• Need to be a new entrant
• Need to be employed by a ECDA-registered child care centre of not more than 6 months prior to course commencement
