SkillsFuture Singapore, the national movement which encourages Singaporeans to adopt lifelong learning and take responsibility for their personal training, has shown encouraging progress in its first annual report. In the last year, over 126,000 Singaporeans have tapped on their SkillsFuture Credits to upgrade or re-skill themselves, demonstrating the success of the initiative.

Three other key findings include:
·         An increase in the number of courses being offered.
·         Information and Communications Technology (ICT) ranks as the top course chosen by most Singaporeans - regardless of age group.
·         Top 10 course providers.

Constantly seeking to include more interesting courses into its listings, there are now more than 18,000 different courses which are offered by public and private training institutions. This is a significant increase of 8,000 courses added into the list of eligible SkillsFuture courses since January 2016. These include in-demand skills such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Accounting, Marketing, and more since January 2016.

Of the 126,000 Singaporeans who have utilised their SkillsFuture Credits, a large percentage of this number attend ICT related courses. Younger Singaporeans were found to have focused their attention on developing and acquiring new skills such as coding and data analytics. In contrast, the majority of older Singaporeans who are seen utilising their credits to acquire basic computer literacy skills.

When it comes to course providers, it does not come as a surprise that most Singaporeans prefer to attend courses offered by well-known course provides. The top 10 list includes NTUC Learninghub Pte. Ltd., National University of Singapore and Singapore Polytechnic. Looking to the new year, SkillsFuture Singapore plans to step up its efforts to encourage more Singaporeans to embrace lifelong learning and conscientiously pursue skills training.
