Do Something More for the New Year

Article on - Do Something More for the New Year

New Year is a time for celebration and festivities, but more importantly, it’s a time for renewal. When the clock strikes midnight and the next year rolls in, you will almost undoubtedly feel a sense of hope – after all, it’s a chance for you to do something more and accomplish something that you’ve wanted to do for a long time.

To help you start the year on the right foot, here are five goal-setting tips for the New Year especially for you.

1. Be Reasonable
No matter how capable you are, you probably aren’t superhuman. Restrain yourself and make sure that your goals aren’t too outlandish. Be realistic and keep your goals to a manageable size.

2. Have Specific Goals in Mind
Don’t be vague about what you want to do. Something like “learn something new” will probably not get you anywhere. You have to know what you want before you can even begin pursuing your goal. Set something specific like “Get a degree in finance” or “master the entire Microsoft Office suite”.

3. Keep Track of your Progress
It’s going to be hard to stay on track with your goals unless you know where you’re going. Set specific milestones and deadlines. With those, you’d be able to give yourself a boost in motivation once you see that you’ve hit a target.

4. Try Something New
It’s almost cheating to keep the same resolutions you’ve had for the previous year. More importantly, it’s a little pointless if you don’t somehow use your resolutions to grow as a person. So take this opportunity to learn a new marketable skill instead of doing the same old thing you’ve been doing.

5. Loosen the Reins a Little
Don’t be too harsh on yourself even if you veer slightly off your goals. Take a step back and re-evaluate where you’ve gone wrong, and then get back into the groove. You might not be able to get everything you want, but you will definitely not get anything if you just give up.

Remember, the New Year is a great time to look back and reflect on what you’ve done well and what you could stand to improve in. Make the most of this year by setting goals that really matter to you, your career, and your future.
