Shaping the Little Minds for Our Future

How do you know if your child is developing at the right rate for its age?

The essential areas of growth for a child are;

  • Gross motor and fine motor skills (psychomotor skills)
  • Cognitive skills (learning, thinking, problem solving)
  • Language and communications development
  • Social and emotional skills
  • Self-help and independence skills (self-feeding, hygiene and toileting, dressing etc)

The first five years of a child’s life are critical for development. The experiences children have in these years help shape the adults they will become. No two kids develop the same. Many variables such as, physical, psychomotor and emotions are vital to the development of a child. All of these areas are linked, and each depends on and influences the others. Research has explored that; caregiver can manage their own and child’s expectations and nurture the best qualities in the children if the child is given the autonomy to grow.

Teachers/caregivers of the child play an equal and/or vital role in helping to shape the kid for the future. Giving the child the opportunity to learn is, important. Through the opportunity to explore, observe, experiment, solve problems and learn from their mistake is quintessential for their development. It is also vital to find a balance between helping the child and letting the child make its own mistake as finding out for itself is the raison d'etre to learning and growth.

The demand for Early Childhood Educators has been increasing over the years and by the 2020, there would be a demand for extra 3,000 teachers needed. The early childhood sector has evolved quickly over 6 years and it doesn’t stop there.
