Course introduction

Introduction

This module is developed to enable learners to acquire knowledge and skills in making use of the Computer-Aided PCB Design (CAPD) software to draw schematic drawing as well as design PCB artwork.

The knowledge and skills covered in this module include:

Skills:

  • Identify PCB designing requirements
  • Select tools, equipment and media for PCB design
  • Develop and produce the PCB design
  • Check and document the completed PCB design
Knowledge:
  • Access, interpret and use international drafting practices or standards
  • Usage of computers and electronic data input and storage
  • Selecting electronic circuit design tools, equipment and media for the task
  • Selecting from data sheets to meet specifications and apply to electronic circuit design
  • Layout of the design including the preferred sizes, and scale and their relation to electronic circuit design
  • Types of design including details, assembly and layout and their relation to electronic circuit design set up procedures
  • Applying the commands in the device library of CAPD software
  • Developing the given PCB component layout and PCB artwork into a schematic circuit and vice versa
  • Application of relevant electronic circuit symbols
  • Electronic circuit design analysis
