Introduction


COURSE OVERVIEW

To enable learners to understand and apply contemporary theories and literature to support the growth, well-being, learning and development of each child. It also includes the ability to guide and adapt teaching and learning practice by applying an understanding of developmental stages of children birth to age 8 and acknowledging that all children have different strengths and learning abilities.
This course is available in English and Mandarin language.


LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this module, students will be able to:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding of how young children learn (0-8 years) including the role of play
  • Understand stages of development (Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social)
  • Fundamental of children with special needs and learning difficulties
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of children’s behaviour (theory and application)
  • Conduct observation and appraisal of children’s behaviour
  • Conduct assessment and evaluation of children’s development (include infant and toddlers)
  • Understand factors influencing development
  • Understand individual differences among young children
  • Understand Child development and socialization (home and environment diversities and influences)
  • Gain knowledge about early intervention;
  • School Readiness, including the transition to school
