Course introduction

Introduction


The programme is aimed at students who wish to follow a career in business and management and progression for further study.

The Advanced Diploma in Business (Mandarin) is designed to introduce students to a wide range of business disciplines at a higher level of study, further develop and impart student’s skills and knowledge in Business Strategy, Enterprise Development and management.

The program includes aspects of finance, Business Strategy, International Business, Entrepreneurship, International Marketing and management to facilitate an understanding of the role of business in today’s commercial world. This course is conducted in Mandarin.



Area of Studies


The Advanced Diploma in Business (Mandarin) consists of 16 modules.
商业管理高级大专文凭包含16个科目。

Delivery Method :Lectures, group discussions, presentation, case studies.
教学方式:讲座,小组讨论,演讲,案例研究,实地考察等。

Each module is assessed by means of examination and written assignment. The assessment weightage is fixed at 50% for examination and 50% for written assignment for all modules.
所有模块都通过考试和书面作业进行评估。其中占考试50%,书面作业50%。

Module 1 Accounting 会计学 
Through course study, students would be able to understand the position, role and the ‘accounting value’ of the accounting system. To achieve this value, the system should accept the changes, the accountant should have the quality and capacity. This module introduces students to basic knowledge of accounting fundamentals and basic analytical skills in a practical environment. , Key topics include an introduction to concepts and principles of accounting, Accounting Statement, Organisation and ethics of accounting, Fixed Assets, Liabilities, Equity, mathematics, etc.

Module 2 Principles of Management 管理学 
This module explores the underpinning theories relating to modern management and examines their application of these to today’s businesses. It covers theory and applications relating to context of management, analysis of internal and external environment, planning and organising, management types, decision-making, organisation structures, evolution and changes, leading and controlling, leadership styles, managing and influencing others, motivation, control activities and performance measurement, international management and current issues.

Module 3 Marketing 市场营销 
This module provides students with an understanding of the fundamental principles of marketing and the marketing process in modern organisations. It explores theoretical tools and techniques for analysing major marketing strategies, issues and challenges. Key topics include an analysis of the marketing environment, consumer behaviour, segmentation and positioning, marketing research, marketing mix, services marketing, Internet and social media marketing, marketing strategy and issues in marketing.

Module 4 Economics 经济学 
This module introduces students to key economic principles and concepts as they apply to the business environment. It examines the effect of supply, demand and price elasticity on market position and competition and also analyses the impact of economic policies on businesses. Key topics include an introduction to economics and the business environment, supply and demand concepts, market structure and the competitive environment and macroeconomics concepts such as fiscal and monetary policy and economic growth, exchange rates, inflation, unemployment and globalisation.statistics, etc..

Module 5 Customer Service Management 客户服务管理  
This module examines the growing uncertainty, increasing competition, and rising client demands on companies around the globe to provide exceptional service and create unprecedented customer value. To achieve this type of breakthrough value, businesses must understand the interrelated behavior and needs of their three key constituencies – clients, employees and investors.
Key topics include an introduction to Customer Service Communication skills, Understand customer retention ,Managing upset and difficult customers ,Measuring customer service and satisfaction, etc.

Module 6 Human Resource Management 人力资源管理 
This module is to enable students to have an insight of HRM, its application and development so as to improve its theoretical level and operational skills. Through the introduction of HRM theories and application, to realize the objective as well as work efficiency of their workforce, in an organization.
Key topics include an introduction to HR Management and job analysis, Human resource planning, Employee utilization and care,Performance management, Contemporary human resource management challenges ,etc.

Module 7 International Trade and Practice 国际贸易实务 
This subject of study will enable students to have an in-depth understanding, through theoretical studies, of international trade, its characteristics, development as well as an in-sight of the emergence of MNCs. Most importantly, the proper understanding on the operations of the terms used in international business transactions.
Key topics include an introduction to Overview of International Trade ,The Characteristics of International Trade, The International Modes of Payment, Insurance in the International Trade, International Shipping and Shipping Documents, etc.

Module 8 Finance 财务管理 
This unit is designed to help students understand the company financial director’s roles and responsibilities. At the same time to study all the relevant financial analysis and financial decision-making process used by the basic concepts, principles and tools. Through the course study, students would be able to have a comprehensive understanding of the basic concepts and principles of corporate finance, and methods of financial decision-making
Combination of the financial management theory with business practice, to grasp modern financial development trend.
Key topics include an introduction to Financial Management Environment, Financial Forecasting and Planning, Working capital management, Profit distribution decision, Corporate Financial Analysis, etc.

Module 9 Business Communication 商务沟通 
This module focuses on the key business communication skills necessary for the effective and efficient operations in today’s complex business environment.
It includes an introduction on communicating in today’s workplace, changes in business communication, effective writing process, Conflict Resolution, importance of effective presentation skills and interpersonal skills and professionalism at work.
本单元侧重于在当今复杂的商业环境中进行有效和高效运作所需的沟通技巧。

Module 10 Leadership 领导学 
This unit is an instant and perpetual concept and has been around since early stage of our society. An interactive activity, leadership works towards to attract talents to contribute to their utmost best effort, to enable them to help to resolve what have come by to them. Leadership is, with social impact, to create for others and to lead others so as to mould a new living path, be it individual, group or corporate. Leadership is a thought to guide and influence the mindset of others.
It includes an introduction on Nature of Leadership ,Leadership behaviours, attitudes and styles,Knowledge management and learning organisation,Influencing tactics of leaders,Motivating and coaching skills ,Strategic leadership, change and social responsibility,etc.

Module 11 Business Strategy 商业战略 
This module discuss about taking ‘strategic decisions’ through a thorough strategic management process to analyze the strength of businesses’ position and understanding the important external factors that may influence that position. It also covers global mindset in managing business and explains a numbers of management tools. It includes an introduction on Environmental and Industry Analysis ,SWOT Analysis,Corporate Strategy,Evaluation and Control,Organizational Structure and Control,etc.

Module 12 International Business 国际商务 
International business is a term used to collectively describe topics relating to the operations of firms with interests in multiple countries.
Areas of study within this topic include differences legal systems, political systems, economic policy, language, accounting standards, labour standards, living standards, environmental standards, local culture, corporate culture, foreign exchange, tariffs, import & export regulations, trade agreements, climate, education and many more.
International business by its nature is a primary determinant of international trade. One of the results on the increasing success of international business venture is globalisation.and Control.

This module introduces to the students the basic concept and e-commerce and its general operations. It tells the students what is the difference between e-commerce and e-business; the different modes and markets of e-commerce. What are the legal aspects, rules and regulations, privacy and intellectual property right that concerned in e-commerce. The security and payment of e-commerce. E-retail, auction, financial, entertainment and career services in E-commerce. The role of E-commerce in Supply Chain Management will also be discuss.

Module 14 International Marketing 国际营销 
This module promotes awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing organisations in the international marketplace and an understanding of the range of markets. To stay ahead of the competition, marketers must, therefore, be able to understand the international marketing environment and adopt appropriate strategies. This course introduces students to the field of international marketing. It focuses on managing the different cultural, economic, social, political, legal and technological environments. Students will learn how to develop strategies for overseas markets. The course also covers elements of international trade.

Module 15 Entrepreneurship 企业家  
The concept of entrepreneurship has a wide range of meanings. On the one extreme an entrepreneur is a person of very high aptitude who pioneers change, possessing characteristics found in only a very small fraction of the population. On the other extreme of definition, anyone who wants to work for himself is considered to be an entrepreneur. One can define the function of the entrepreneur as one of combining various input factors in an innovative manner to generate value to the customer with the hope that this value will exceed the cost of thee input factors, thus generating superior returns that result in the creation of wealth.
Key topics include an introduction to Entrepreneurs Recognition, Addressing Legal Issues and Managing Risk,Creating Business from Opportunity, Operating for Success, etc.

Module 16 Small & Medium Enterprise Development 中小企业发展 
This module research SME’s existence, development and evolution feature, involving politics, management, sociology and psychology.
Through multiple study patterns such as case study, interactive discussion, communication with entrepreneur, it will help students to master SME’s current situation, management experience and development strategy.
本模块研究中小企业的生存,发展和演变特征,涉及政治,管理,社会学和心理学。

Minimum Age Requirement最低年龄

  • Applicants must be 17 years and above 17周岁以上。
Academic Entry Requirements 学术要求
  • GCE ‘O’ Level or 11 to 12 years of school GCE ‘O’ 水准或高中二年以上; or
  • 9 years of school, with 3 years of working experience 初中毕业必须有3年以上工作经验
  • Students with SAAGE Diploma or other Diploma in Business (Mandarin) will be given exemptions for relevant modules SAAGE 商业大专文凭或同等学历(需学术评估)可豁免已学过科目

  • Pass in GCE O level Chinese or equivalent 中文通过GCE‘O’水准或同等水平.
