The Specialist Certificate in Intangible Asset Management is an 8-months part-time programme, targeted at professionals who are keen to enter the intellectual property (IP) industry or to learn about the business value of intangible assets.
The programme will be conducted by leading IP experts and industry practitioners, who will impart their experience in dealing with real and practical issues in professional and business practice.
Upon completion of the programme, students will obtain a working knowledge of how IP drives business strategies, how intangible assets can be viably managed, and how business strategies can be designed for intangible assets to obtain optimal commercialisation outcomes.
Course Benefits
The programme aims to provide students with the following:
- A practical grounding in IP rights protection regimes with the aim of analysing how these drive business strategies towards intended outcomes.
- An in-depth analysis of the IP asset value management lifecycle and its various stages, with the aim of designing effective management and decision-making processes for transitioning IP assets through the lifecycle.
- The means of assessing IP assets with the aim of identifying potential business opportunities and their viability, within the context of marketplace positioning, pricing and marketing strategies.
- A functional knowledge of a range of IP transaction mechanisms, with the aim of designing differentiated deal strategies around IP assets for optimal commercialisation and monetisation of the same.
Course Pre-Requisites
- Aspiring IP Professionals with a minimum Bachelor’s Degree qualification.
- Applicants who graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Universities where English is not the main medium of instruction are required to demonstrate their English proficiency using TOEFL* / IELTS** test scores.
- Applicants with a local Diploma qualification and at least 3 years of intellectual property-related work experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
- *TOEFL is the abbreviation of the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
- **IELTS is the abbreviation of the International English Language Testing System.

Exemptions Available
Exemption from the module “Foundational Aspects of Intellectual Property in Business” will be available for:
- Applicants who have graduated from the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law (GCIP) programme, jointly offered by IP Academy and Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore.
- Graduates who have taken similar modules conducted by IP Academy in Post-Secondary Education Institutions / Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) will be considered for exemption.
