Overview
The Master of Science in Project Management is designed to provide graduates from any discipline with advanced skills and knowledge in the field of project management. The voerall aim of the programme is to take students from a wide range of backgrounds and prepare them for future roles as professional project managers with transferable skills in a wide variety of industrial and service sectors. The students would focus on project management methods, competencies and techniques as defined by the Association of Project Management (APM) and the Project Management Institute (PMI) in their Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). TEG together with its corporate partner, the University of Sunderland, U.K., provides practicing, highly qualificed professionals as local faculty to facilitate you through this programme in a vibrant environment having modern learning facilities and computing and analysis systems.
Learning Objectives
Up on compltion of this programme, the students would have critical understanding and awareness of a key aspect of the academic discipline, appropriate research techniques, legal, professional and ethical issues of project management, iterative process of project control, contract negotiation and fulfillment, financial management techniques, risk management, strategic planning, management decision making and importanct of teamwork and communications management. The students are required to undetake a major original research project on a topic which related to the Project Management demonstrating originality in tackling and solving real life problems systematically and creatively and forming solid conclusions.
Programme Structure
This programme consists of 8 moduels at 15 to 60 credits per module.
Attendance Requirements
International Students (ICA student pass holder) must attend a minimum of 90% of scheduled course hours at all time. A minimum attendance of 75% must be achieved for local students (Singaporean, PR, Empolyment Pass, S-Pass and work permit holders etc.) who are not holding student pass. Students whose attendance is below 90% (ICA Student Pass holder) and 75% (local students) are not eligible to submit the assignment or sit for the examination.
A student who is absent or considered to be absent from class/session, must provide documentary proof i.e. Original Medical Certificate issed by a General Practioner, Polyclinic or Hospital to his/her Course Administrator immediately on his/her return to school.
Graduation Requirments and Progression
Students are required to successfully pass 7 modules + Project (180 Credits) for a Master of Science in Project Management award. Upon successful completion of the programme you are able to apply for a wide range of empolyments in sectors where project managers are most commonly empolyed in industries like construction, engineering, digital media, IT etc. A Masters degree will also enhance opportunities in academic and research based empolyments with a further study in PhD.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Various methods of teaching and learning are empolyed in the programme, for example, lectures, group work, directed reading, research, discussions, students presentations, seminars, tutorials, and practical laboratory sessions.
Teacher - Student Ratio
TEG teacher-student ratio will not exceed:
1:40 lecturing
1:30 for classroom teaching; and
1:20 for tutorials
Assessment and Examinations
Assessments are arranged to ensure that the key learning goals of the modules are covered. The assessment strategy has been formulated with regards to the University Assessment guidelines. the assessment methods include individual written reports with references to international journal papers, practical assignments and the Masters project.
Admission Requirements
- A good honours degree (2.2 or above) or equivalent in any subject;
- Where an applicant's first language is not English and where an applicant possesses qualifications other than those indicated above, evidence of Level 6.5 attainment in the International english Language testing Scheme and / or TOEFL score of 575 and / or TEG Certificate of General English and English for Academic Purposes Level 4 or an equivalent qualification is required.
