This course is designed to develop their foundation skills in Numeracy, Technology and Literacy, enhancing their performance of students in both academic and non-academic endeavours. It effectively prepares students for the intellectual demands and skills set required at degree level.
Students will be assessed 100% by coursework. Coursework may be in the form of class tests and assignments. Assessment methods may vary according to individual module requirements.
Numeracy Skills - LMA001
This module will focus on the mathematical background necessary for further study at tertiary level. It emphasizes the development of critical analytic thinking and the use of clear mathematical expression as a means of communication.
Technology Skills - LCT001
This module covers the skills of using productivity IT tools in the school and work environment. The tools covered are Word processor, Spreadsheets, Presentation Slides, Calendars, and Online Forms. The course also covers management of websites and embedding the documents generated from the productivity tools in a website. The learners are assumed to have the basic computer skills such as using web browsers and operating systems.
Literacy Skills - LLG001
The module will focus on how to write well-argued and coherent essays and on improving English language fluency and sophistication. Students will learn to write better with more grammatical correct English. Topics covered will include précis writing, summary writing and other essay writing techniques.The short section will cover the topic of preparing students for a University life.
Upon successful completion of the Certificate in Foundation Skills awarded by Informatics Academy, the student is eligible to apply for an Informatics Academy Diploma programme.
Upon successful completion of all modules, students will be eligible for the Certificate in Foundation Skills awarded by Informatics Academy.
Minimum Age: 16
Academic Qualifications: Completed GCE ‘O’ level or equivalent. Pass in any 3 subjects for “O” level or equivalent.
English Language: Certificate in Proficiency in English awarded by Informatics Academy, IELTS 4.5, or TOEFL (iBT) – Min score of 53 or equivalent.
Full-time 4 months
Combination of lectures, tutorials and workshop conducted in classroom environment at Informatics Academy campus. Lessons are typically in blocks of 3-hour sessions.
