Course introduction

Introduction


Our School provides Preparatory Course to students who wish to further their academic courses at a University or similar Institution, or who want to live, study or work in an English speaking country. This course is specially designed for students that are not familiar with the IELTS.
 
Courses
1.   Preparatory Course for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Level 1

The aims of this syllabus are to help students to develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking English language skills to prepare them for higher academic education. On completion of this level, the student should be able to understand general meaning in very familiar situations.

Entry Requirements: Minimum Age 13 and completed at least Primary 6 or equivalent.

2.   Preparatory Course for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Level 2

The aims of this syllabus are to help students to develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking English language skills to prepare them for higher academic education.  On completion of this level, the student should be able to demonstrate basic competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking English language in familiar situations.

Entry Requirements: Minimum Age 13 and completed IELTS – Level 1 or at least Secondary 1 or equivalent.

3.   Preparatory Course for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Level 3

The aims of this syllabus are to help students to develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking English language skills to prepare them for higher academic education. On completion of this level, the student should be able to generally command the language, use and understand fairly complex language.

Entry Requirements: Minimum Age 13 and completed IELTS – Level 2 or at least Secondary 2 or equivalent

4.   Preparatory Course for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Level 4

The aims of this syllabus are to help students to develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking English language skills to prepare them for higher academic education. On completion of this level, the student should be able to have operational command of the language and generally able to handle complex language well and understands detailed reasoning.

Entry Requirements: Minimum Age 13 and completed IELTS – Level 3 or at least Secondary 3 or equivalent.

Course Duration
Full time, 6 months, Monday to Friday, 5 Hours per day

Please note that prospective students are advised to submit their application at least 6 weeks before the start date.

Internal Assessment: End of course written assessment
External Examination: International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Criteria for Graduation
Complete course or pass in IELTS exam And Minimum Attendance

Foreign Student - At least 90% attendance (absence with valid reasons)
Local Student - At least 75% attendance (absence with valid reasons)

Meet next level’s admission criteria And Minimum Attendance Requirement

Foreign Student - At least 90% attendance (absence with valid reasons)
Local Student - At least 75% attendance (absence with valid reasons)

Fees: $3,960

Remark:
1.  Application Fee is non refundable.

2. The above payment does not include Student’s Pass Processing Fee ($30.00), issuance fee ($60.00) for every student’s pass issued, and a multiple-entry visa fee ($30.00) for visa required nationals.  THE AMOUNT IS TO BE PAID TO ICA DIRECTLY.

3. The above payment does not include IELTS exam fee (approximately S$300.00 per exam) and other fees not receivable by Birmingham Academy.

4. Security Deposit in the form of a Banker’s Guarantee to ICA (for student above 16 years old):

a) Indonesia, Philippine and Thailand, Amount S$1,000.00.

b) Bangladesh, Myanmar, China & India, Amount S$5,000.00.

c) Other Countries, Amount S$1,500.00

Document Required

1.  Photocopy of Passport

2.  Four (4) recent passport sized photographs (with white background)

3.  One (1) certified true copy of birth certificate

4.  One (1) certified true copy of highest educational certificate

5.  One (1) certified true copy of highest educational results transcript

6.  Bank Statements/Fixed Deposit (equivalent of S$30,000/-)

7.  Working testimonials stating the position held and salary per month.

Please note that Notarised Translations are required if the documents are not in English.
