Course Overview
The Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education – Teaching (DECCE-T) awarded by Asian International College is accredited by the Preschool Qualification Accreditation Committee which is jointly steered by MOE and MSF.

It is designed to equip preschool teachers with the necessary skills for effective teaching and planning. Upon successful completion, students can proceed to pursue the Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education – Leadership (DECCE-L).

Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Provide an overview of the preschool and national education systems in Singapore and their desired outcomes
  • Analyse their roles in the facilitation and scaffolding of children’s learning in the early years
  • Understand educational considerations that help various exceptional needs children to be more successful in their learning.
  • Recognise the importance of including Parents and the Community in the care and education of young children
  • Recognise the importance of safety, health, hygiene and nutrition aspects in the care and education of young children
Entry Requirements
Local Students

Existing teachers registered with MOE or MSF
  • 5 GCE 'O' Level credits, including English as the first language (EL1)*
*For those without a credit in EL1, a minimum band of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS – General Training) is required.

New Teachers (teachers registered with MOE / MSF on or after 1 Jan 2009)
  • 5 GCE 'O' Level credits, including EL1#
#For those with C5 or C6 in EL1 are given 2 years from the point of teacher registration to obtain B4 in EL1 or a minimum band of 6.5 in IELTS.

International Students
  • Have undergone at least 12 years of formal education
  • Passed an examination conducted by the country or state with credits in 5 different subjects including EL1
1. Applicants from English speaking countries (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and the US)
  • The medium of instruction of their formal education is English; AND
  • Grade in EL1 obtained in a national or state examination is equivalent to a C6 in the GCE 'O' Level examination
2. Applicants from other countries
  • The medium of instruction of their formal education is English; AND
  • They must obtain a minimum band of 6.5 in IELTS prior to entry
Note:

If the medium of instruction of the formal education is not English, they cannot be admitted into the course, as they have not met the language requirement.

However if the applicants have obtained a degree where the medium of instruction is English, they may be admitted into the course but they must obtain a minimum band of 6.5 in IELTS prior to entry.

Assessment
Assessments will be based on students’ performance in assignments – in the form of field research, case studies, journal writing, reflection, classroom discussions, presentation and practicum. Some modules are examination-based.

Duration
The course is conducted over 30 months of a part-time study or 18 months of full-time study. Students are required to complete 900 classroom hours and 300 practicum hours.

Requirement for Graduation
To qualify for certification of the programme and/or progression to the next level of the programme, students must pass all prescribed modules and practicum (where applicable).

o   Students will be notified on the collection of transcripts within 3 months from the last assessment.
o   The certificates will be presented to the student upon graduation annually.

Award
Students who successfully complete all modules will be awarded the WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education by Asian International College which is accredited by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).
