Curriculum Overview

Programme Structure

3D Models and Animation - E2073

This module introduces students to the concepts of 3D modelling. Students will learn to understand how basic 3D models are created, providing textures and the rendering procedures to create the final 3D model. Students will also get a first-hand understanding of manipulating and appreciating 3D paths to produce the final required 3D animation. The course will prepare students for moving on to 3D game techniques and creating their own 3D movie files.

Advanced Animation Techniques - E2074

This module provides students with an overview of creating complex 2D and 3D models. The lessons covered will include the creation and modification of the models and models in motion. Another aspect of the module is the introduction of the creation of 2D and 3D landscapes. Students will learn about texturizing and its application and to render a final movie file.

Advanced Game Programming - E2075

This module enables students to understand the use of complex game engines for game creation using Java programming. The module emphasises the use of Java advanced objects and object-oriented programming techniques.

Artificial Intelligence and Game Development - E2076

This module introduces students to AI techniques such as neural networks, decision trees, genetic classifiers and reinforcement learning required for game development. Students will familiarise themselves with the use of AI library and learn how to apply AI techniques into games developed using C++.

Creating Games for Handheld Devices - E2072

This module equips students with the skills required for the design and development of a 3D mobile game using Unity3D and Android SDK software. The students will learn about lighting, camera, audio, 3D modelling, texturing, animation controls, collision detection and event handling to develop a 3D mobile game to be run in an Android-based device. Students will learn game design through story-writing, user interface diagrams and UML class diagrams.

Games Architecture and Design - E2070

This module teaches students in design, architecture, and management of game development. Students will be taught about real-life case studies of what works and what doesn’t. This course will train students on all the necessary game creation steps-from seeing a game idea on paper to actual implementation of an idea.

Online Game Development - E2071

This module emphasises the use of Flash MX to develop games for the internet. Students will learn about the use of graphic user interface and scripting to develop a complete game programme. Students will learn to create arcade style games and educational games.

Project - E2077

This module requires students to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills learned throughout the course. Students must complete a project on either a game or animation with full documentation.
