Programme Objectives
The Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biomedical Sciences programme offered by Teesside University in partnership with MDIS is designed to take prospective students steps closer to achieving their ambitions. This programme is meticulously tailored for prospective students keen on deep diving into clinical biomedical science, research and the pharmaceutical sciences sectors. The course will equip prospective students with essential transferable skills, enhancing employability across diverse healthcare and life science settings. To equip graduates for multifaceted careers and postgraduate study in life sciences, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences will bring them one step closer to achieving their ambition of living an unlimited life: from ordinary to milestone success.

The programme is intended to:

  • Provide students with a broad and balanced appreciation of the fundamental scientific concepts that underpin biomedical science;
  • Develop a range of practical skills and competencies to allow students to work safely and minimize risk in a laboratory environment
  • To develop practical skills in the laboratory in addition to broader professional skills
  • Develop the ability to apply a variety of methods of study in the investigation and analysis of problems in biomedical science
  • Permit students to complete a final year independent enquiry-driven project, incorporating critical analysis and evaluation of data

Entry Requirements


Local and International Application Entry Requirements
Applicants must be of age 17 and above, and meet at least ONE of the following requirements:

For Year 1 entry

  • International Foundation Diploma in Biomedical Sciences awarded by MDIS OR
  • GCE 'A' level, with a minimum of grade C from one relevant science stream subjects OR
  • Relevant qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutes (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in sciences-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be suitable as pathway programmes for entry onto the Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education.

For Year 2 entry
  • Relevant polytechnic diplomas in Science-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) OR
  • Relevant diploma level qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognized Higher Education providers in Science-related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education.

English Language Requirements
The applicant is required to achieve one of the following:
  • C6 in English at GCE 'O' Level OR
  • IELTS 6.0 (with no elements below 5.5) OR
  • MDIS Professional Certificate in English OR
  • Pass MDIS English Placement Test OR
  • Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English OR
  • Equivalent
