Introduction


Programme Objectives
The MA Education Studies programme will offer a course of study that is academically challenging and relevant to a wide range of educational contexts. The aim is to enhance students’ knowledge and conceptual understanding of a range of contemporary educational issues. A wide variety of teaching methods is used during the programme; including lectures, seminars and tutorials. The degree programme is assessed using a variety of methods; including essay, report, presentation, and dissertation.

The main educational aims of the programme are:

  • Provide a supportive learning environment appropriate to postgraduate study and research
  • Offer a programme that is academically challenging and relevant to a wide range of educational contexts
  • Enhance the knowledge and conceptual understanding of a range of educational issues
  • Share innovative and inspirational experiences that stimulate learning
  • Present a critical framework within which students can develop their own responses to contemporary educational issues
  • Contribute to the continuing professional development of students on each pathway – teachers and lecturers, leaders and managers

There are two pathways available in the programme, one for ‘Teachers and Lecturers’ and one for ‘Leaders and Managers’. Each pathway consists of four taught modules and a dissertation.

In addition to the core modules, students will be expected to complete one more relevant fixed module dependent upon their career choice.

Students on Leaders and Managers Pathway

  • Students under this pathway will undertake the Education module following module in addition to the four core modules above.

Students on Teachers and Lecturers Pathway
  • Students under this pathway will undertake Placement module in addition to the four core modules above.



Entry Requirements


All applicants must be of age 21 and above, and must obtain one of the following requirements:

Entry Requirements
A UK Bachelor Degree with at least a lower 2nd class honours classification OR
An overseas degree-level qualification and grade which are equivalent to a UK honours degree with a 2nd class grade. A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience is required. OR
Candidates without a degree or required grade may also be considered on the basis of possessing other qualifications and having at least 2 years of relevant work experience in Education

MDIS Professional Certificate in English (PCIE) OR
Pass MDIS English Placement Test OR
Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English OR

  • Intercultural Education @ 12 Hours (by Local Tutor on top of Distance Learning)
  • Dissertation @ 12 Hours (by Local Tutor on top of Distance Learning)
  • Placement / Education Leadership @ 12 Hours (by Local Tutor on top of Distance Learning)
  • Additional 15-hours intensive workshop on Academic Writing (with Harvard Referencing) and Critical Thinking Skills
