Introduction


The  Higher Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management course in SAA Global Education Singapore is designed to focus on latest trend in the hospitality industry which is booming in today’s world. It also helps students to understand the theory and techniques involved in hospitality and tourism management. Its aims are to provide students with a broad understanding of the operational aspects of the international hotel industry, and knowledge of the underlying principles involved.



Curriculum Overview


Programme Structure


Food and Beverage Management

The aim of this module is to provide students with knowledge of Food and Beverage Management system and how they are designed to support the students to manage the restaurant in the hospitality industry.

Facilities and Maintenance Management

Facilities management is firmly established as an important subject in the academic discipline in the higher education sectors. This is because this subject introduces the balance of generic management skills core quality of an organization, the value and the risk in processes and to be focused on the facilities operations. These operational skills for the delivery of the facilities services are covered by the management of space, environment, communications and the full range of services that supports business effectiveness in the hospitality industry.

Human Resources Management

This module will provide the students with an in-depth understanding of the strategic and coherent approach to an organization’s most valued assets – the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the business. This module will also focus on effective business practices in the hospitality industry, like performance and reward management, to ensure the motivation and success of the human resource of the company.

Marketing Management

This module is designed to provide an overview of the marketing environment in which organizations operates. It also investigates the role and function of marketing within the context of changing hospitality industry’s business setting and increasing international competition. The module covers the basic principles of marketing and how to apply it in actual situations. This paper also tackles how the consumer behaviour will affect the marketability of a product or services of a hotel. The students will be provided with an overview of how behaviour is influenced by the society. A sound understanding of consumer behaviour is essential to the success of marketing activity.

Housekeeping

The aim of Housekeeping module is to provide students with an overview of the range of functions within the facilities department of hotels.

Research Methods and Group Project

This is a research based module whereby students are supposed to do a research on topics which they are studying concurrently with the other Higher Diploma modules over the same period of time. This is allow the students to understand the subject matters in the hospitality industry better in analysing and interpreting the information sand knowledge they have acquired throughout the lecture. This will also enable them to think and make recommendations for their future action when they are working in the actual working industry.

Industrial Attachment (6 months)

This module will provide an opportunity for aspiring students to begin their practical learning journey in the hospitality and tourism sector. Students will be well-equipped with the relevant and necessary knowledge and skills to enter and succeed in this dynamic and challenging sector.
Students who are unable to secure the Industrial Attachment will have to successfully complete a 3-month research project.

Entry Requirements


  • Min. age: 18 yrs;
  • GCE ‘O’ Level and
  • SAAGE Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management OR
  • Any other equivalent qualifications would be considered on a case to case basis
English Requirements

When prior education is not in English Language any one of the following is required:
Certificate in English Proficiency (CEP) Programme – Intermediate awarded by SAA Global Education or equivalent OR IELTS 5.5/ TOEFL (paper-based) > 500 or TOEFL (computer-based) > 173 OR any other equivalent English qualifications
