Course introduction

Introduction


ISCA has collaborated with AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) to provide the flexible skills-based ISCA Accredited Accounting Technician (ISCA-AAT) qualification. This partnership supports the government’s SkillsFuture initiative, offering aspiring accounting technicians from various background opportunities to equip themselves with relevant skill sets to meet the demand for competent accounting and finance staff to support senior levels of the profession.

The ISCA Accredited Accounting Technician is suitable for those who aim to achieve a professional qualification with real-world accounting knowledge.

It helps students to build solid accounting knowledge and practical skills that they can apply directly at work.
 



Curriculum Overview


Programme Structure


The ISCA Accredited Accounting Technician (ISCA-AAT) is made up of three levels; Foundation, Advanced and Professional.  You will earn individual certificates upon completion of each level.

Foundation Level
The Foundation Certificate in Accounting equips you with the skills in finance administration. This level covers a range of basic accounting practices and techniques, from double-entry bookkeeping to costing. You will also gain invaluable self-management and time management skills, and develop an appreciation of ethical issues and sustainability, which is essential in any workplace.Example job roles: Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeper, Payroll Officer, Tax Assistant, Purchase/Sales Ledger Assistant.

Certificate: Foundation Certificate in Accounting  (Awarded by ISCA)
*Students are required to sit for a synoptic assessment after completing the Foundation Level.
Advanced Level
This Advanced Certificate in Accounting covers more complex accounting tasks, such as maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. You will also acquire skills in the use of accounting software and develop an understanding of the principles of Singapore law and tax.Example job roles: Accounts Payable Assistant/Executive, Audit Officer, Bookkeeper, Payroll Supervisor, Accounts Assistant/Executive, Tax Assistant.

Professional Level
The Professional Certificate in Accounting covers higher-level accounting tasks, including drafting financial statements, managing budgets and evaluating financial performance. In addition, you will have the flexibility to select one out of two optional modules – credit management, cash and treasury management.Example job roles: Senior Accounts Executive, Cost Accountant, Financial Analyst, Payroll Manager

Syllabuses
The ISCA-AAT consists of 16 modules.

Assessment:
Students will be assessed via computer based assessments.  The assessments are mainly closed-book computer-based and are a combination of multiple choice and structured questions. Results will be released by ISCA in 3 working days (fully computer-marked) to 7 weeks (partially computer / human-marked) from the date of assessment.
Note that apart from the individual assessment for each module, there is a separate synoptic assessment at the end of the Foundation level and the Professional level.  There is no synoptic assessment at the end of the Advanced level.
Grading will only be awarded upon the completion of each level, not individual assessments. All unit assessments and synoptic assessment will count towards the grade on an equal basis. The mark range for each grade is as follows:

Merit 80% – 89%
Pass 70% – 79%
Unclassified 0% – 69%Or failure to pass one or more assessment(s)



Entry Requirements

Level Minimum Age Academic English Proficiency
Foundation 16 years old Students must have at least 3 GCE O Level passes (C6), including English and Mathematics, or equivalent. IELTS 4.5 or pass in English Language at GCE N level or its equivalent 
Advanced 18 years old Students who have 2 GCE A Level passes (A to E) or Higher NITEC in Accounting graduates from Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE), or equivalent may enter directly into the Advanced level. IELTS 5.5 or pass in English language at GCE O level or its equivalent
Professional 18 years old Students completed and Passed Advanced Certificate in Accounting or its equivalent (i.e. Diploma in Accounting, Certificate in Bookkeeping and Ethics, Certificate in Computerised Accounting and Ethics offered by AAT) are eligible to entry into the Professional level. IELTS 5.5 or pass in English language at GCE O level or its equivalent
Exemptions
Depending on your prior course of study and/or relevant working experience, you can be exempted a maximum of 50% of modules at each level. Recent qualifications within 3 years are considered for exemptions. The 3-year period commences from the award date on the certificate issued by the Awarding Institution.
