Course introduction

Introduction


The Certificate in English Proficiency classes are in the morning and our specialized English Plus modules are in the afternoon. Our Certificate in English Proficiency Course is 12.5 hours a week and our English Plus modules are 2.5 hours a day up to 12.5 hours a week. Of course, any combination of our 12.5-hour morning classes with the specialized afternoon modules can be selected at SAAGE. Students in these programmes could join the Certificate in English Proficiency Course (General English Programme) in the morning, and then enjoy the English Plus organized modules in the afternoon.

In Singapore, students can select from Movie Clubs, City Tours, English for Business, English for Art, English for Tourism, English for Accent Reduction (Pronunciation) and many more!



Curriculum Overview


Programme Structure


SAA-GE’S General English Programme is a short course language programme where learners are able to enroll for 1 – 11 weeks depending on the visa validity of the students. It is targeted at building proficiency in the core skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing – fast. Students who are interested in entering the programme will have to complete the Malvern Online – General English Test (Quiz section - https://online.malverninternational.com/) or complete the Test onshore and will be placed in the level (Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate or Upper-Intermediate) depending on the results and the decision of the Academic Team.

  • English for Art (E4A): An interactive programme that uses an interest in art to trigger conversations in English with the introduction of art vocabulary.
     
  • City Tour (TOUR): An interactive programme that uses an interest in exploring Singapore to trigger conversations in English. With the introduction of vocabulary related to: City Navigation, Architecture, History, and Culture.
     
  • Movie Club (MOVIE): An interactive programme that uses an interest in movies to trigger conversations in English. With the introduction of vocabulary from any subject.
     
  • English for Accent Reduction (E4AR): An intensive vocal programme that focuses on correcting the phonics and phonetics of the student.
     
  • English with Culture (CULT): An interactive programme that uses an interest in learning about British and American culture as a trigger for conversations in English. With the introduction of vocabulary related to: Food, Architecture, Life-styles, Values, Norms, History, Polite Behaviour, and Culture.
     
  • Fun English (FUN): Usually on the last day of the month after the Month End Exam. The class will plan some activity to celebrate their month long journey of learning.
     
  • English for Conversation (E4C): An interactive programme that uses an interest in talking to their various teachers about various topics and subjects. With the objective of gaining confidence, and fluency, while expanding the student’s vocabulary.
