Course introduction

Introduction


Our Master of Arts in TESOL programme aims to provide educators with in-depth knowledge and tools to advance their skills in teaching English as a Second or Foreign language. Excellent opportunities for key research in the fields of TESOL and Applied Linguistics are provided. This course is designed to better equip educators with the knowledge for enhanced application in a language learning classroom. Delivered by internationally-recognised researchers and grounded in their own experiences, our programme is designed to bridge the gap between research knowledge and application.



Curriculum Overview


Programme Structure


Victoria University’s MA TESOL attracts English language teachers from around the world who wish to upskill and become more effective in classroom teaching, assessment and curriculum design. Teachers in the programme are equipped to:

- Prepare and critically assess teaching materials;
- Plan a programme of language study;
- Account for individual differences and difficulties in language learning;
- Monitor and assess learners’ progress;
- Advise teachers on effective procedures and interventions;
- Read and evaluate research, theory and descriptions of classroom practice in language teaching; and
- Plan and carry out their own small-scale research studies. 



Entry Requirements


a) Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, English Language, Education or a language other than English (or another relevant degree);

b) At least 2 years of professional experience in language education or other areas of applied linguistics;

c) For students from non-English speaking backgrounds, an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0; or TOEFL internet-based test: 90 with a minimum 20 in writing; or Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 65 (with a 'Communicative' score of not less than 58) is required.

Applicants with a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics conferred by SEAMEO RELC or an equivalent post-graduate qualification will be eligible for a four-course exemption.

# Please note that fees are subject to change and candidates are required to pay the tuition fees in Singapore dollars at point of collection.  The exchange rate chargeable would be determined by RELC. 
 
Students from outside Singapore are advised to subscribe to the Group Health Insurance Scheme at S$53.50 per month (inclusive of GST), as medical costs in the event of illness can be very high. 
 
Note:
  1. All fees are subject to change at any time without notice; 
  2. RELC does not accept any responsibility for accidents on journeys to and from Singapore or in Singapore, or for the loss of baggage and other personal belongings in transit or in Singapore;
  3. RELC will also not be responsible for taking out air, travel and personal accident insurance for students; and
  4. Students are expected to incur additional costs for miscellaneous learning materials.
Payment of fees
  1. The Registration Fee must be submitted together with the Application Form and supporting documents;
  2. Fees are payable before the commencement of the course;
  3. Cheques should be crossed and made payable to the SEAMEO Regional Language Centre; and
  4. An administration fee of S$50.00 (inclusive of GST) will be imposed for cheques which are dishonoured.
Refund policy
  1. The registration fee is strictly non-refundable; 
  2. Cancellation of enrolment must be made in writing; 
  3. An Administration Fee of S$160.50 (inclusive of GST) will be payable if the notice of cancellation / withdrawal is made less than 5 calendar days from the date on which the payment is received;
  4. Full course fees paid is non-refundable if the notice cancellation / withdrawal is made after 5 calendar days from the date on which the payment was received; and
  5. Withdrawals after the course has commenced will not be eligible for refund.
