Introduction


As a key touch point for visitors to Singapore, the tourist guides main priority is to ensure a high quality and unforgettable destination experience for visitors. Tourist guides bring the destination and stories to life for visitors, provide warmth and the element of human touch. 
The WSQ Certificate in Tourist Guides - NC/NAP course prepares the tour guide in all the key areas recognised as significant in tour guiding in Singapore and is a pre-requisite to being eligible to take the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) Tourist Guide License assessment. Once that assessment is passed you would be officially licenced to conduct tours in Singapore.
The WSQ Certificate in Tourist Guides - NC/NAP course comprises of 6 WSQ Competency units (4 National Curriculum units & 2 Elective units).

There are 6 WSQ competency units in the WSQ Certificate in Tourist Guides - NC/NAP course and the unit synopsis for each one is listed below:
Promote Singapore as a Tourist Destination & Apply Tourism Knowledge
These two units specifiy the skills and knowledge required by an individual to:
  • Describe Singapore heritage
  • Recommend Singapore experiences,
  • Advise visitors on travellers’ information and essentials
  • Identify and describe significance of key landmarks and memorials
  • Introduce features of main attractions
  • Explain tourism cultural festivals and events in Singapore.
Write Tour Commentary
This unit specifies the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to:
  • Identify information relevant for tour commentary
  • Develop tour commentary
  • Review tour commentary for continuous improvement
Conduct Tour
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required by an individual to:
  • Prepare for a tour
  • Manage itinerary
  • Conduct tour commentary
  • Deal with conflicts, difficulties and unexpected situations
  • Conclude a tour.
Create Customer Experience
This unit will equip the students with the understanding, knowledge and skills on:
  • Recognising customer needs and concerns
  • How to display personalised service
  • How to create value services to delight the customer.
These competencies lead into a successful creation of a positive customer experience.
Handle Arrival and Departure of Visitors
This unit specifies the knowledge, skills and attitudes to:
  • Confirm accommodation and transport arrangements
  • Prepare for and handle arrival of visitors
  • Conduct, brief and check visitors into accommodations during arrival and for departure
  • Prepare and brief as well as check visitors into airport terminal, cruise terminal or border crossing points



Entry Requirements


Entry Requirement
  • Minimum 21 years old and above
  • GCE “O” Level pass in English (Min Grade B4) or workplace literacy skills at the proficiency level equivalent to WSQ WPL Level 6 as stated in the Employability Skills WSQ Framework (for applications of Tourist Guide Licence)
  • Basic knowledge of Tourism industry and organisational product and services
  • Preferably 1 year of working experience
Eligibility
Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International Students are eligible to apply for the WSQ Certificate in Tourist Guides – NC/NAP course.

Duration & Intake


Programme Duration


Mode of Instruction
Instruction may include lectures, discussions, excursions, guest speakers, demonstrations, case-studies, practical exercises and activities.
Duration of Course
The total duration of the WSQ Certificate in Tourist Guides - NC/NAP course is 246 hours. It consists of the following components:
  • e-learning            -  50 hours
  • Applied Learning -182 hours
  • Assessment        -  14 hours
Mode of Delivery
The WSQ Certificate in Tourist Guides - NC/NAP course is part time over 7 months.
Average teacher-student ratio
1 teacher to a maximum of 20 students.

SSG Funding Available
SSG funding is only applicable to Singaporeans and PRs and includes the following types:

Nett Fee Payment Scheme
Payment is Nett course fee only therefore all funding will be applied first where applicable. It is also eligible to be paid for by SkillsFuture Credit payments.
