Course introduction

Introduction


The Diploma in Network and Computer Technology course is developed to meet the needs of the constantly changing IT industry, especially for Network and Computer Technology for entry level IT professionals. This diploma course provides a holistic education for students with a strong foundation knowledge and practical skills in Network, Cybersecurity, Computer Architecture, Information Processing, Server Configuration, and IT Project Management. With the underpinning knowledge and skills, graduates will be able to merge into the industries and gain employment.

Curriculum Overview


Programme Structure


BUILD AND CONFIGURE SERVER – CCW104

This module defines the competency required to build, configure and test a server. It involves activities from confirming the server design to testing of the server upon installation and configuration.

COMPUTER AND INFORMATION PROCESSING – CCW101

This module focuses on the introduction of the basic components of a computer system. The topics covered include mobile apps, Internet, web application, network, databases and the different IT careers.

CYBERSECURITY – CCW103

This module provides a broad overview of cybersecurity. It equips the students with knowledge of cybersecurity and skills in securing computer-based resources. The module covers the benefits and techniques of security controls and important related considerations.

ESSENTIALS OF NETWORKING – CCW102

This module equips the students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in computer network including networking systems and internet-working devices.

IT PROJECT MANAGEMENT – CCW105

This module focuses on Project management, the process of organizing the way that changes are implemented efficiently within an organization. Students will learn about project management. The project management centres on the planning and control of everything involved in delivering the end result - and it is a process that every person on a project team needs to embrace, understand and execute, no matter the experience level.  

OPERATING SYSTEM AND COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE – CCW106

This module enables students to acquire a good understanding of the concept of computer architectures and system software by studying the correlation between computer configuration and operating system.

INTERNSHIP/PROJECT – CCW107

This is a double credit module. The students are given the opportunity of an internship experience which allows them to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom into a work setting. Alternatively, the students may opt to undertake an independent research in topics of their choice under the supervision of a faculty member.



Area of Studies


Progression Pathway

Upon successful completion of the Diploma in Network and Computer Technology awarded by Informatics Academy, the student is eligible to apply for Advanced Diploma in Network and Computer Technology.

Graduation Requirement

Upon successful completion of all modules, students will be awarded with a Diploma in Network and Computer Technology awarded by Informatics Academy.



Entry Requirements


Minimum Age: 17
Academic Qualifications:

  • Pass in Nitec; OR
  • Pass in any 3 subjects at GCE ‘O’ Level; OR
  • Country specific qualification equivalent to GCE ‘O’ level
English Language: Minimum GCE ‘O’ level – D7 or equivalent.
Students with qualifications that were not conducted entirely in English and those who do not fulfil the minimum level of proficiency in English are required to complete the Proficiency in English Programme (PIE). English placement test will be administered by Informatics Academy to ascertain their level of competency and place them at an appropriate level of PIE.

ALTERNATIVE ENTRY
Mature candidates (30 years old and above with eight years working experience) who fulfilled the English Language proficiency requirements may be considered for the mature entry route on a case-by-case basis.

Delivery Model

Combination of lectures, tutorials and workshop conducted in classroom environment at Informatics Academy campus. Lessons are typically in blocks of 3-hour sessions.
