Introduction


The Diploma in Law has been developed by London School of Business and Finance to provide a qualification for students who are seeking to work in the legal industry or in occupations where a practical knowledge of the legal industry will be of utility.  It acts as a standalone qualification for students.



Curriculum Overview


Programme Structure


The main aim of the Diploma in Law is to give students the legal knowledge and practical insight into the workings of the legal industry. In particular, students will get an insight into the workings of law firms and the role that they can play in law firms across Singapore. Holders of the Diploma will be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge and critical understanding of the major theories and concepts in law.

The Diploma in Law aims to:

  • Develop students’ competence and practical skills in law
  • To lay the foundation for future pathway and continuing professional development.
  • To provide students with the relevant knowledge and understanding of law as it relates to the wider business context
  • The knowledge and skills that will enable them to follow a career in all areas of law and a wide range of careers in business, human resources and administration.



Area of Studies


On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:

  • demonstrate relevant legal knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of law which will equip them with an awareness of the operation of law in all aspects of their lives
  • demonstrate proficiency in identifying legal issues and know how to use the their knowledge and analytical skills effectively across a range of problems
  • interpret situations which require legal input and contribute meaningfully to these situations
  • demonstrate understanding of legal issues and understand how to respond to these issues
  • effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms to specialist and non-specialist audience
  • demonstrate cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis
  • demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making using appropriate quantitative and qualitative skills including identifying, formulating and solving legal problems
  • take and demonstrate responsibility for their own learning and continuing personal and professional development
  • undertake further training, develop existing skills and acquire new competences that will enable them to assume significant responsibility within organisations



Entry Requirements


Minimum Age
At least 18 years old

Minimum Academic Entry Requirement

  • Two passes in GCE A Level Examinations; or
  • Completion of equivalent High School qualification (12 years); or
  • Pass in appropriate Foundation / Certificate programme; or
  • Other similar qualifications; or
  • Mature Entry Route (MER) Minimum age of 21 plus work experience (2 years min) will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
Minimum English Language Entry Requirement
  • Achieved a grade C6 or better in English language O level; or
  • Equivalent qualification e.g. IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550; or LSBF PCE Advanced.
All international students for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of their linguistic ability by gaining a minimum level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent, prior to receiving an offer for the course.

Work Experience
A minimum of 1 years work experience in a legal position work be an advantage

Lectures, Tutorial, Seminars, Workshops, Case study and Exercises, Class Discussion

COURSE DURATION
Full Time: 8 Months
Students attend lessons 3 hours per day plus directed/independent study for a period of 8 months from Monday to Friday.

Part-time: 12 Months
Students attend 3-hr lessons 2 nights a week for a period of 12 months.

COURSE INTAKE
Full-Time/Full-Time: Every 2 months/ modular
Intake falls in, July, September, November

Full-Time/Part-Time: Every 3 months/ modular
Intake falls in, July, October
