Course introduction

Introduction


Construction and Quantity Surveying is primarily centered on construction and the management of the costs and budgets of large projects. From the moment a plan is drawn until a large construction project has been completed, a quantity surveyor is likely to be involved in a legal, technical and financial capacity. The functions of a quantity surveyor are broadly concerned with the control of the cost on construction projects, the management and maintenance of the budget, valuations and any legal matters arising through the course of the project. They are required to make sure that the project remains profitable and efficient.

The job requires a combination of technical, financial and legal knowledge. With a qualification in quantity surveying, the career possibilities include contracting or private quantity surveying, building surveying, construction management or consultancy, accountancy and financial services management or estate management. As a student, you can be a student-member of the professional body such as The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), this organisation plays a leading role in the training and development for the built environment sector.

At this level, you will learn the fundamentals of Construction & Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Mathematics, Cost Estimation & Economics, Green Engineering Design and its application, Workplace Safety and Professions in Context.

Graduates from this course can look forward to a career in Construction industry – drafting contracts and procurement, measurement- recording the progress and valuing the work, Cost Forecasting and Monitoring the profit & Loss of each project.

The curriculum will include recent innovate skills for engaging the more challenging and complex needs in the industry. A focus on working in groups and classroom communication and collaboration are essential to prepare students for the future. In this course you will acquire these skills through industry based projects, case studies and assignments.


Graduation and Degree
Students who pass all required assessments and assignments will be awarded a Diploma in Construction and Quantity Surveying awarded by Coleman College. Graduate who wish to further their studies in this field may apply for Higher Diploma in Quantity Surveying awarded by Coleman College.

Entry Requirements


Age   Minimum 17 years of age and above
Academic Qualification  GCE ‘O’ level with 3 subjects passes. English plus any other 2 subjects or; Higher NITEC or equivalent foreign qualification with at least 1 year of working experience.

OR

Matured students: At least 30 years old with at least 8 years of working experience will be considered on an individual basis.
English Proficiency  IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
