Course introduction

Introduction


The Advanced Diploma in Business Management course is specially designed for those who work, or wish to work in areas of business that involve an understanding of the concepts of business management.
The course equips student with the knowledge to comprehend principles of strategic management, marketing management, managing change and innovation, business statistics and business project management, providing them the ability to apply this knowledge to various roles in organizations.

Graduation and Qualification
Students who pass all required assessments and assignments will be awarded a Advanced Diploma in Business Management awarded by Coleman College. Graduates who wish to further their studies in this field may apply for a relevant programme offered by other institutions or universities.
Admission is subject to the institution’s or university’s entry requirements at the point of application.

Programme Structure



At the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Have the ability to make managerial decision in light of various influencing factors
  • Understand and apply marketing concepts and techniques
  • Understand the challenging issues in managing various stakeholders involved in a change process
  • Understand basic business statistical concept such as descriptive statistics, simple probability, normal distribution, estimation, hypothesis testing and correlation
  • Understand the purpose, aims and objectives of a project and be able to run a project

Module Synopsis/Objectives

Strategic Management
The unit equips learners with the ability to make managerial decision in light of various influencing factors. Learners will be taught using real-life cases, applying the various management strategic models and methodologies, where they will be guided on how to make strategic models and methodologies, where they will be guided on how to make strategic judgments in the best interest to the organization.

Marketing Management
This unit enables learners to understand and apply marketing concepts and techniques and encourage them to consider the importance of marketing in their actual or prospective employment or self-employment.

Managing Change and Innovation
The aim of this unit is to provide students with an appreciation of managing changes and innovation in the organization. It enables students to understand the challenging issues in managing various stakeholders involved in the change process.

Business Statistics
This unit will provide learners with an understanding of basic statistics concepts such as descriptive statistics, simple probability, normal distribution, estimation, hypothesis testing and correlation and their relevance to the business environment.

Business Project Management
The unit covers the purposes, aims and objectives of a project. Learners will learn to prepare a project plan, run a project and be able to report project outcomes.

Management Research Project
Under the supervision of an approved trainer, learners will be required to write a consultation report, where learners are to do research covering management issues in the business industry. Research will consist of review of primary and secondary sources (e.g., information booklets and newspapers), case comparisons, and if possible, interviews. Learners will learn to review a myriad of literature, define problem(s), be able to analyse problems critically and recommend solutions. It also enables learners to improve their communication and report writing and presentation skills through this project.

Academic  Minimum Diploma in related field or equivalent
English Proficiency  IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
