Launch of SkillsFuture – What It Means for You

Launch of SkillsFuture – What It Means for You

SkillsFuture, the national movement to promote lifelong learning, is the topic that has been on everyone’s lips lately. But beyond the obvious financial aid you get should you choose to pursue a course, what can you stand to gain with the advent of SkillsFuture?

Let us take a look at how different groups of people can benefit from the SkillsFuture scheme.

Students
The SkillsFuture scheme is something that you will be able to take advantage of while you are schooling, even before the age of 25. For example, with the help of Education and Career Guidance (ECG) counsellors, students from primary school onwards are exposed to a wide range of education and career options – empowering them to make more informed choices about their future.

SkillsFuture’s efforts for students do not stop there. With initiatives such as the Earn and Learn programme, you are able to study and gain on-the-job experience simultaneously. Such programmes allow you to apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world situations, fortifying your lessons with industry relevance.

Young Professionals
As an individual in the early phases of your career, you may sometimes wonder whether or not you are sufficiently-equipped for the job. This is the phase in life where you become aware of how different work requirements are from what you have learnt in school.

SkillsFuture aims to make the transition between student life and professional life a smoother one. By utilising your SkillsFuture Credit to attend Skills-Based Modular Courses (courses that are tailored specifically to the needs of the industry), you can learn skills that are more relevant to your job scope. This will help you ease into the work environment and add value to your work.

Mid-Career Professionals
“Relevance” and “upgrading” are the two keywords for you in this stage of life. After being in the workforce for so long, it is only natural to start thinking about how you can re-energise your career.

With the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy, you will be eligible to receive up to a 90% subsidy for MOE-funded and WDA-supported courses. So you can now take up courses to deepen and update your skills to give your career a boost, or even learn new ones in order to pursue a new calling.

Returning Workers
Whether you are a homemaker who has been out of work for several years, or a retiree who has decided to return to work, SkillsFuture gives you the opportunity to bounce right back into the workforce.

The SkillsFuture-initiated Individual Learning Portfolio (ILP) portal will help you plan your next step before you re-enter the workforce. The portal will help identify skills gaps that will need to be filled and the respective course of action. After which, you can simply utilise your SkillsFuture Credit to refresh and update your skills to regain the confidence and face the working world yet again.

All in all, SkillsFuture has something for everyone in almost every stage in life. As long as you are willing to learn and improve yourself, a whole new world of possibilities await you. So be sure to explore this new frontier and discover how you can fulfil your potential.
