Course introduction

A sound body leads to a sound mind. This highly interactive workshop will provide participants with an insight into the causes of physical and psychological stress. Participants will learn to identify the symptoms of stress and what can be done to relieve stress and achieve wellness. They will also be taught holistic wellness techniques involving the use of the mind, body and soul. Natural therapies such as visualization, deep breathing exercises, music therapy, aromatherapy, pet therapy and laughter therapy will be included in this hands-on workshop.

  • Defining mental, emotional and physical stress
  • Types of stress ie Macro and Micro stressors
  • Stress Check Exercise – Self Evaluation exercise
  • Video on Managing stress – sources and causes of stress
  • Adaptive and mal-adaptive responses (Right and wrong ways to respond to stress)
  • Solution to stress - Group discussion followed by solutions provided by the trainer
  • Sources of stress ie work, family, social and personal
  • Signs and symptoms of stress – physical, emotional, mental and behavioural signs
  • Group discussion followed by a summary by trainer
  • Understanding personality – Type A and B personality and how they affect stress
  • Assessment of personality types through questionnaires
  • Short video and discussion of the article on personality types
  • Time management – The fourteen leading time wasters
  • Planning and managing your work, family and personal time (Individual exercise)
  • Anger – causes of anger and how to manage it
  • Positive reactions to angry situations
  • Diet – How eating right can lead to less stress and more energy
  • Exercise – The benefits of exercise in improving circulation and reducing stress
  • Sleep and rest – how to overcome insomnia and promote restful sleep
  • Positive thinking, visualisation and self motivation techniques
  • Stress relief techniques including aroma therapy, music therapy, pet therapy
