How to Perform Prior Art Searches

Course introduction

The course shall guide you through patent searches in a step-by-step manner. It also covers search strategies using complimentary patent search engines, usage of syntax to increase efficiency, interpretation of patent information, preliminary review of relevant patent documents and introduction to patent intelligence.



Course Pre-Requisites


Participants should possess basic knowledge of intellectual property (IP) law, especially in the area of patents. While having deeper levels of patent knowledge and experience is helpful, there will be course time to cover the necessary patent knowledge (see course outline below).

Participants are requested to bring along a laptop or mobile devices to participate in the practical exercises designed for the course.

This course is suitable for business owners, officers from public agencies, researchers, engineers, lawyers, patent agents, officers from technology transfer offices.
