Course introduction

3D Printing, or Additive Manufacturing, has seen a phenomenal rise in terms of usage and popularity amongst engineers and scientist. It has gain a lot of attention in the various media all over the world. Recent investments by major companies, private corporations and government agencies showed the importance of this technology and its importance to the next generation of product development and advanced manufacturing. What is 3D Printing? Why is it so important and what does it mean to companies involve in manufacturing?

This one day course aims to address these questions and provide a clear and wide-ranging introduction to this technology and its implications to the future development of manufacturing.



Course Pre-Requisites


To be eligible for SF Series subsidy, participants: 
- must be Singaporeans or Permanent Residents of Singapore 
* Participants who do not fulfill the above criteria are not eligible for SF Series funding, and are required to pay the course fee in full.

Target Audience


Managers, engineers and technicians who wish to have clear understanding of what 3D Printing or Additive Manufacturing is, what this technology can be used for, the different kinds of the technologies available and how the technology will impact upon current product design, development and manufacturing practices.

This course will introduce to participants what 3D Printing or Additive Manufacturing (AM) is and provide them with a clear understanding and summary of the following:

1.Fundamentals of 3D Printing or Additive Manufacturing
2.Advantages and Strengths of Additive Manufacturing
3.The Additive Manufacturing Chain
4.Classification of Additive Manufacturing
5.A comprehensive look at the different AM Systems
6.Applications of AM in the industry and home

Replacement Policy
Given a 3 days notice before course commencement, companies may replace participants who have signed up for the course. Terms and conditions apply.
 
There is no replacement for participant utilising SkillsFuture Credit. Participant to cancel their SkillsFuture Credit claim with WDA.

Trainer Profile


Assoc Prof Leong, Kah Fai

LEONG Kah Fai is an associate professor in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. He obtained his B.Eng. (Mech.) with Honours from the National University of Singapore and two M.Sc. degrees in Engineering Product Design and Mechanical Engineering, from Stanford University. His area of research interests are in Additive Manufacturing for biomedical applications, particularly in tissue engineering; sports technology; design science; and design education. He has taught for more than 30 years in these areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has also over 200 publications in international refereed journals and conferences in these fields. His publications have been cited more than 5,000 times and his H-index is 32 (Web of Science). He also has a number of patents in these areas. He is currently the Programme Committee Deputy Chair of the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing, Co-Director, SIMTech-NTU Joint Laboratory for 3D Additive Manufacturing and concurrently, Director of the Institute for Sports Research.
