Our new and updated Data Center Design Awareness course will help you learn the key elements that influence the design of the modern data center This foundation course introduces you to all of the main disciplines associated with a data center.   It focuses on important design considerations such as site selection and cabling infrastructure, and the skills necessary to understand key concepts and the interdependencies between disciplines.

  • Identify key stakeholders and design considerations in development of data center specifications
  • Apply best practice recommendations to building layout requirements, including resilience level and space requirements
  • Discuss configuration options for the data center including cabinet types, sizes and layouts
  • Distinguish between copper and fiber cable and the appropriate containment of each

Minimum Requirements

  • 1-2 years data center/computer room experience (recommended)

Trainer Profile


Derek Williams

Consulting Engineer

After the successful completion of an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auckland University, Derek William worked for several years as consultant in Auckland and London before relocating to Singapore in 1995, with Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner.

He is a founding partner of TW International Counsel Pte Ltd (TWin) – formed in 2000, with a specific focus on Mission Critical projects (for investment banks and data centers).

Based in Singapore, TWin has undertaken projects throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Recently, Derek has had key roles in the design and implementation of new data centers in Singapore, including those that have achieved LEED Gold status.
