SIM Professional Development


Course introduction

High growth enterprises often face the challenge to develop a strong middle management team to meet the demands of business expansion and seize opportunities for growth. This programme, developed in collaboration with WDA, aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of high potential middle managers and equip them with the necessary competencies to catalyst the growth of their enterprises. This programme consists of 2 modules and requires the participants to submit a post-course project report at the end of the modules.

Module 1 : Leadership Skills

Presentations of Development Plans
  • Participants deliver a short presentation on Lessons Learnt and Personal Plans of Action after this workshop. Each presentation will be  5-7 minutes duration

Module 2 : Managerial Skills

Finance Management
  • Using Zodiak experiential learning methods and board game, participants will learn how to define and use common financial terms such as assets, liabilities, equity and cash flow
  • Understand basic financial statements and balance sheets
  • "What If" exercises will demonstrate impact of price reductions on profits, additional sales required to meet unbudgeted expenses, strategies to increase profitability
  • How strategic initiatives can impact the bottom line and shareholder value
Marketing & Sales Management
  • Establish rapport and build trust fast
  • Create impact through asking intelligent questions that build credibility and move buyers’ thinking
  • Present your offering in a differentiated, customer-focused way
  • Aligning Marketing with Sales
  • Win more business, retain clients/customers, and increase referrals
Human Resource Management
  • Evolution of business dynamics driving changes in HR practices

Post-Course Project

After completing Module 1 & 2, participants are required to submit a report on how they have applied the competencies or lessons learned from the programme at their workplace (e.g. improvement in leadership & management practices, better employee engagement & staff retention, improved productivity and bottom line, etc.). This project is created for the participants to share best practices and a form journey of self-discovery.

Objectives:
  • Follow-up on lessons learnt and reaffirm the personal development plans;
  • Share any success stories and experiences using the tools and concepts gained from the programme

Trainer Profile


Michael Tan, Maxine Teo, Azam, or Kwok Hoe Choy

Mr Michael Tan has more than 20 years working experience in Administration and Human Resource Training & Development and Training Consultancy.

He specialises in Personal Enrichment Programmes, Supervisory Management Skills and Organisational Development topics. Mr Tan's client list includes the Civil Service departments and Statutory bodies, the Service and Hospitality Sectors and the Manufacturing Industries from Singapore, ASEAN countries and Mongolia.


He is MBTI® Qualified and is certified to administer the Relationship Awareness™ Theory Instruments, the DISC and a number of other licensed personality instruments. Michael is also certified as competent in Competency Based Assessment by WDA.


Mr Tan holds a Master of Arts degree in Tertiary, Adult & Continuing Education, University of Hull, UK. His other qualifications include Training, Organisation & Methods, Administrative Management and Transport.



Maxine Teo is a tri-lingual corporate facilitator, trainer and coach with a passion for colourfully impacting lives™ over 15 years of training experience working with diverse teams across Asia.

Ms Teo has a knack of turning complicated concepts into practical and fun applications. Coming from years of working in the financial services industry, she shares her experience and knowledge in Sales and Client Relationship topics like Effective Communication, Advisory Sales, Negotiation Skills, Presentation Skills and Customer Service Excellence. The skills imparted are especially applicable to relationship based industries like finance and banking, insurance, real estate and retail. Industrial and chemical industries have also benefited from her training. Maxine graduated with merit from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Business Administration.

She holds a Professional Diploma in Training & Development, a Professional Certificate in Designing & Facilitating Experiential Learning and accreditations in various personality profiling tools like True Colors©.



Mr Azam has wide-ranging experience in the areas of enterprise risk management, business process innovation, business planning, Balanced Scorecard, internal audit advisory and learning to enhance business and financial literacy. He has also consulted and trained businesses and government agencies across various industries.

Prior to his current advisory role, Mr Azam held various positions of responsibilities in Singapore Press Holdings, the Times Publishing Group and an international public accounting firm. He headed the IT audit function at Times Publishing Group; and the IT audit, business process innovation, enterprise risk management and corporate planning functions in the course of his 17-year career at Singapore Press Holdings


Mr Kwok Hoe Choy (HC) is among a select core of hands-on consultants with close to 30 years of practical practitioner experience in leading, designing and implementing learning solutions, talent development programmes, organisation branding and employee engagement initiatives for corporations across Asia. Having trained thousands of professionals, managers and senior leaders across different cultures, HC is now dedicated to designing solutions for companies seeking to improve organisation effectiveness. Building on his experience as a certified instructional designer, he has customised HR solutions for many clients with exceptionally positive results.
