Course Introduction

This course explores the areas of physiological responses to stress, perception, life situations and emotional reactions. The student will be given exposure to the physical, psychological, sociological, and spiritual aspects of stress. The course will also cover appropriate coping skills to help manage stress in everyday life. Topics covered are to fuse the broad range of knowledge about psychology, to emphasize research methodology and to encourage comprehensive thinking. After taking this class, students should realize that they have greater control over their lives and their environments.

Student Learning Outcomes: At the end of this course students will have:

  • Define the term ‘Stress’ and grasp the basic terminology, concepts, and principles of the stress management
  • Gain knowledge of scientific methodology in stress management—understand the ways in which psychological data is gathered and evaluated
  • Gain insight into how people react to stress
  • Discuss the ways that a variety of stress management techniques are used to deal with stressors and stress
