Introduction


Course objectives:

This diploma will give you an understanding of fundamentals of software engineering practical skills in using different programming environment skill in managing projects systematically skill in managing, developing small to medium scale software projects.

Modules:

Module Code        Module Name

C3101            Advanced Programming

This module is designed to provide advanced concept of programming to handle more complex programming projects. It will give you deeper understanding of Object Oriented programming and will introduce you with network programming and multi-layer architecture of enterprise applications.

C3102            Software Engineering

This module introduces to students the fundamental engineering discipline which is concerned with all aspects of software production; developed programs and associated documentations or deliverables. This module is for students to work together in formal groups to build a software system using Object-Oriented analysis, design, implementation, and testing techniques.

C3103            Graphical User Interface Design

This module is designed to provide the students with a roadmap to the world of interface and interaction design. While students will be learning UI best practices and reusable ideas as design patterns, this module will provide solutions to common design problems that students can tailor to the situation at hand.

C3104            Operating Systems

This module examines the design of operating systems and to show how it manages resources and provide services.  With this module, the students should be able to understand the structure of processes and threads and how it is synchronized and scheduled. It also broadens the students understanding on organization of memory and the basics of file system construction in modern operating systems.

C3201            IT Project Management

This module is designed to let students acquire the right project management skills needed to better manager future IT projects. IT Project Management module covers basic concepts of IT Project Management, including initiating, planning, controlling, executing and closing projects. It allow student to fully understand the foundation IT Project Management life cycle. This module also shows how IT Projects should be managed, from inception to post implementation review.

C3202            Distributed Systems

This module introduces the concepts and design principles used in the construction of concurrent and distributed systems.  It involves the development of the principles of concurrent distributed system from simple shared-memory systems to multiprocessor and distributed environments. 

C3203            Professional Ethics and Security

This module introduces concepts on ethical use of computer system. It provides a wider perspective when it comes to securing computers as well as that of the privacy of the users. This module also enhances student’s ability to adapt with the various security operations and procedures applied by most industries and computer based organizations.

The course fees are due, and is payable in two (2) installments
Course Fee: S$8,800 (excluding application fees)

Admission Requirements:

Minimum GCE ‘A’ Level (or) 11 years of General Education (or) Genetic Diploma (or) Diploma from other institutions with minimum duration of 1 year of study (or)  Equivalent

English Language Proficiency Requirement:

Pass in English at “O” Level or equivalent or
IELTS 5.5 or
TOEFL Paper Base 525 or Computer Base 196

You must complete eight Modules (48 Credits) to complete this higher diploma.

Completion Criteria:

Minimum 75% attendance for Local/ PR & Non Student Pass Holders
Minimum 90% attendance for International Student
Must pass all the examinations and assessments for all modules

Certification:

Upon completion of this course, students will be awarded Genetic Computer School International Higher Diploma in Software Engineering

Progression Pathway:

Upon completion, students can advance to computer studies –related degree programme from selected university*

Teacher - Student Ratio

The average Teacher - Student ratio of Genetic Computer School for International Diploma in Computer Studies is 1:25. This ratio will ensure that the learning experience of each student would be at its optimum level. This is to maintain high quality standard for the student's education.
