Introduction


Synopsis:
This pathway will cover the main functions of management including facilitating and managing change and providing a vision for the future; managing financial resources, physical resources, technology, the management of information and knowledge and providing products and services; building relationships, developing networks and partnerships and managing people; and leading business operations and meeting customer needs.

 
The ways in which finance is managed within a business organisation will be considered, the different sources of finance evaluated and the use of financial information to make decisions studied. Also included will be consideration of decisions relating to pricing and investment, as well as budgeting, together with techniques for the evaluation of financial performance.
 
The internal nature of organisations from both a theoretical and practical viewpoint will be considered and it is intended to develop an understanding of the behaviour of people within organisations and the significance of organisational design and characteristics.
 
The objectives of organisations and the influence of stakeholders are included as is the operation of organisations in relation to the local, national and global environment. Also included is an introduction to the fundamental concepts and principles that underpin the marketing process, examine the role and practice of marketing within the changing business environment and include a concise and contemporary overview of marketing, together with the knowledge and skills to underpin further study in the specialist field of marketing.

  • Pass all 32 assignments with Pass, Merit or Distinction
  • Attain minimum overall attendance of 90% (International Students) and minimum overall attendance of 75% (Local Students) for the entire course.
- Assessment Methods: Assignment Based (16 modules X 2 assignments per module)
- Course Duration:
  • Full Time: 12 months (Monday to Friday - 3hours per day)
  • Part Time: 18 months (To be advised)

  • International Students: S$14, 000
  • Local Students: S$14,000 (Local scholarship may be given and easy installment plan exclusively with Maybank can be arranged)
- Minimum Entry Requirement:
Local Students
  • At least 1 GCE 'A' Levels pass or 3 GCE 'O' Levels passes including English, or 5 GCE 'N' Levels passes including English, or ITE COS, NTC 2, NITEC Holders or Certificates and Diplomas issued by international examination bodies like LCCI, ABE etc.
  • Working adults with at least 2 years of relevant working experiences
  • Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
  • English Language Proficiency: At least a C6 in English Language at GCE 'O' Levels or Grade D or 5 in GCE 'N' Levels or Completed an English-based course of study or Passed Portman English placement test

International Students
  • Must be at least 16 years old at point of application
  • Successfully completed at least 10 years of formal education in their home country
  • Certificates and Diplomas issued by international examination bodies like LCCI, ABE etc.
  • Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
  • English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 525 or Passed Portman English placement test
  • Students who fail our English placement test can sign up for our preparatory course for IELTS (an English Language programme) to improve their English Language Proficiency before applying with us to study the Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND courses

The BTEC Higher Nationals in Business have been developed to focus on:
  • providing education and training for a range of careers in business such as administration, personnel, marketing, finance, law, purchasing and management
  • providing a general qualification with flexibility of study to meet local or specialist needs 
  • providing specialist options which meet the needs of the major functions in business and allow specialisation with career progression and professional recognition in mind
