Introduction


As the Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) industry continues to thrive, it is always on the lookout for qualified, talented teachers to fill its ranks. Aside from the promising career prospects, for many the rewards are less tangible, with the opportunity to nurture young minds and shape the future.

This WSQ course will provide you with the relevant knowledge and skills for working with young children in the early childhood education field. You will be equipped with a good understanding of child development, including creativity, the use of play as a vehicle for learning, how to create appropriate plans and experiences, designing a stimulating environment, safe and healthy practices, effective communication skills and strategies for working with parents, peers and the community.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, graduates will be able to:

  • Transfer education philosophies and child development theories into practices which provide wide-ranging, multimedia and developmentally appropriate experiences for young children;
  • Be skilful in their role of observation and application of knowledge of child development;
  • Gain knowledge on a variety of approaches and strategies which facilitate a creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children;
  • Develop interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with fellow colleagues, parents and other professionals in the community; and
  • Design, implement and evaluate activities and learning environments that are appropriate to young children’s developmental needs and learning.

Award of Certificate

Upon successful completion of coursework and practicum, and a minimum of 80% attendance, trainees will be awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), accredited by the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) System and recognized by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF).

Admission Requirements

Applicants should have:

Local Qualifications
• 3 GCE ‘O’ Level credits including a credit at least C6 in EL1 OR
• 3 GCE ‘O’ Level credits and C6 in GCE ‘O’ Level EL1 or English Language Acceptable Alternatives

Foreign Qualifications
• 10 years of formal education in English and passed state exam with credits in 3 different subjects including a credit at least a C6* in GCE ‘O” level EL1 or English Language Acceptable Alternatives OR
• 10 years of formal education not in English and passed state exam with credits in 3 different subjects and at least a C6 in GCE ‘O’ level EL1 or English Language Acceptable Alternatives
