Course Introduction

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) course is developed and awarded by Cambridge Assessment International Education.
Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. It is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide, and is an international passport to progression and success. Developed over 30 years ago, it is tried, tested and trusted by schools worldwide.
The Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O-Level qualifications are equivalent grade for grade. Graduating with the IGCSE will enable students to pursue Kaplan’s Foundation Diploma programme followed by Diploma and Degree programmes across different disciplines.
Kaplan Higher Education Academy is registered as a Cambridge International School. Once enrolled, students can take both their lessons and assessments with Kaplan.
Kaplan Higher Education Academy does not accept private candidates who apply for private examinations only.

Area of Studies

Core Modules
This preparatory course may be completed in a minimum of 5 months on a part-time basis. It follows the syllabus stipulated by Cambridge Assessment International Education.
You may choose any of the following modules:
  • English as a Second Language (Count-In Speaking)
  • Enterprise
  • Mathematics
Your intended education pathway and progression must be taken into account when making your module selection as different progressions would require different number of modules and combinations.
 

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements
  • Completed Year 9 of studies; OR
  • Attempted GCE N-Level examination
English Language Requirement
  • At least Grade D or Grade 5 in GCE N-Level English; OR
  • IELTS 5.5; OR
  • Kaplan English Test (KITE) score of at least 425; OR
  • Any other equivalent English language qualification
Work Experience
  • Mature candidates (30 years old and above, with a minimum of 8 years of work experience)

The total tuition fee covers lectures and internal assessments such as assignments/tests (where applicable).

All fees indicated are inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the prevailing rate. The prevailing GST rate from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023 is 8%. Education Loan
Choice of flexible repayment schemes available to suit your needs:
  • Standard Repayment: Pay your monthly instalments (principal and interest) once your loan is disbursed.
  • Partial Repayment: Pay partial instalments for up to 3 years or till the end of your course, whichever is earlier. Standard monthly instalments (principal and interest) will commence thereafter.
  • Interest Servicing: Pay only interest for up to 3 years or till the end of your course, whichever is earlier. Standard monthly instalments (principal and interest) will commence thereafter.
  • Flexible repayment tenure of up to 8 years.

Minimum class size: 35 students
Class may commence with fewer students than indicated above, subject to resource availability. In the event of cancellation, you will be notified at least 1 week before the course commencement date, stated in your student contract with Kaplan, and our consultants will contact you to advise on a backup plan.
Maximum allowed candidature period: Not applicable.
 

Study Mode & Duration

Delivery
The lessons are held in classrooms. Students will learn about the content of selected modules according to the syllabi set by Cambridge Assessment International Education in preparation for the Cambridge IGCSE.

Assessment & Exams
There will be internal and external assessments for each module. Each module is assessed by any combination of examinations, presentation, projects or written assignments. Assessment methods may vary according to individual module requirements.
At the end of the course, students will sit for the external examinations. External examinations occur twice a year, in May/June and October/November.
