Course introduction

Introduction


The HND Business with Accounting develops skills and knowledge in a range of business, information processing, management, problem solving, information and communication technology with a strong focus on financial and management accounting. The award develops specialist accounting skills for those who wish to take up a career in accounting or financial administration within a wide range of business organisations.

The HND Business with Accounting is designed to lead to employment in a number of business or accounting related positions such as accounts assistant, finance assistant, accounts supervisor, accounts technician, financial or management accountant.

Successful students should be able to progress to a range of degrees. Students should always check the entry requirements for degree programmes at specific Higher Education providers.

Further, the HND Business with Accounting may allow students to progress to qualifications offered by professional accounting bodies, such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
 

Programme Duration
Full-time:  18 months               Part-time: 24 months


Programme Structure
Full-time students will have a study load of 7 or 8 credits over 1 trimester with 15 guided learning hours per week.

Part-time students will study load of between 4 – 6 credits over 1 term (3 months) with up to 9 guided learning hours per week.

Mode of Delivery
Guided learning hours consist of lectures, tutorials, group discussions, project meetings.

Assessment / Examinations
Written assignments, class presentations, and projects. No formal examinations.

Entry Requirements

  • AGE: Applicants must be aged 17 years and above upon commencement.
  • ACADEMIC: Minimum 2 GCE ‘A’ Level passes; or Year 12 education or equivalent; or Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business; or other equivalent foundation programmes.
  • ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: English proficiency of IELTS 5.5/TOEFL iBT 61 or its equivalent. Applicants who do not meet the required proficiency level will need to enroll for additional English classes before commencement of the programme.

    Candidates who do not fully meet the above requirements may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Graduation Requirement
Students must successfully pass all 23 units totalling 30 credits.

Attendance Criteria
All students need to attend at least 75% of classes. Student’s Pass holders must maintain an attendance of at least 90% as required by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

Education Pathway
Holders of the Higher National Diploma in Business with Accounting will satisfy the entry requirements into various universities listed in the Diploma to Degree page administered by SQA. Students should always check the entry requirements for degree programmes at specific Higher Education providers.
