SkillsFuture is a national movement to encourage eligible Singaporeans to adopt lifelong learning and take charge of their professional development. From January to August, over 80,000 Singaporeans have tapped on their SkillsFuture Credit to pursue training courses which are added periodically. Currently there are over 16,000 courses available, ranging from foreign language to software courses like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Excel.

Aside from the much talked about SkillsFuture Credit, SkillsFuture also comprises of many other programmes and initiatives under its umbrella. One of which is known as the SkillsFuture Study Awards initiative. Specifically catered to professionals who are already in the workforce and are looking to further develop their specialist skills.

Adding to the long list of 500 study awards available, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has recently introduced four new study awards focused on the tourism and hospitality sector. These awards target professionals who are working in the Hotel, Tourist Guide, Travel Agent and Meeting, Incentive, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. To be eligible for this study award, applicants must:

·         Be early to mid-career Singaporeans.
·         Ensure choice of course is relevant to their current profession.
·         Have relevant working experience.

Successful applicants will be awarded a bond-free cash grant of $5,000 to help offset any out-of-pocket course fees. This awarded amount can be used on top of existing SkillsFuture Credit and other government subsidies. It may be good to note that you can only receive this award once so that others may have a chance to receive it as well, so do plan your application wisely.
